You Do Not Need Surgical Equipment to Groom Your German Shepherd

German Shepherd care requires a complete run down of all necessary supplies that are needed to groom the German Shepherd. The owner may begin with a simple currycomb and progress on to more sophisticated tools that can be used for various aspects of grooming the German Shepherd.

Currycombs are metal points that have a wooden or plastic handle and are very useful in getting rid of a lot of hair that your dog has shed and can also be useful in untangling knots in some areas of the dog’s body like in their ears, on the paws or tail. One should exercise restraint and care in using the currycomb as improper use will result in harming your German Shepherd especially, if the skin is pulled too hard.

Dog Brushes, Trimming Blades and Nail Clippers Should Be Used

German Shepherd care also may require purchase of dog brushes of which there are many different types though professional dog groomers do not prefer the brush, relying instead on teasels. So, it may be better to use teasels instead of metal brushes or plastic or hard brushes since the German Shepherd does not have very long hair for which the brush may be unsuited.

87% of all dogs DIE way too early because of the food they are fed. Find out how to STOP this happening to your German Shepherd!

The dog owner may also require using trimming blades which should help in easily pulling out small patches of dead hair and to do so the owner may grab the dead hair between the blade and thumb and pull out the dead hair. Trimming blades can be of medium size which is useful for areas that need a lot of trimming like on the stomach and one can use fine trimming blades for areas that require shaving such as the throat and ears.

What you need to groom your German Shepherd is to remember to clip or trim its nails periodically. For this one would need dog nail clippers which are an indispensable item and one also needs to learn how to use them to trim the nails neatly. One can choose from two different types of nail clippers and both work equally well. The guillotine type nail clipper is quite handy and so is the standard scissors style nail clipper and one can buy different sizes. Just remember to dispose off the nail clipper when it no longer can cut the nails.

Essentially, the advantage of keeping a German Shepherd is that it does not really require any surgical type of tools to groom it and it can be likened to a "wash-and-wear" kind of animal that is easy to maintain. However, some essential items one would require to groom the German Shepherd include a coat rake, shedding blade and some good shampoo. But, the German Shepherd needs to be bathed only once or twice a year and one should avoid giving frequent baths as that would dry out their skin and strip it off its natural oils.

When you groom your German Shepherd, the shampoo should specifically be a dog shampoo because the pH in the body is different and shampoos used by humans are inappropriate since the dog shampoo also should have flea protection properties. For cleaning the ears, one should also put cotton in the ears so that water does not enter the ear canal and this will prevent ear infections from occurring.
