Electronic dog training collars are the innovative means of saying goodbye to
the hussles involved in training your pets. These collars allow dog owners to
train their dogs at home, and often save them money and time by not requiring
them to take their dogs to training classes anymore.
Types
Based on the type of correction stimulus, electric dog training collars can be
categorized into three different types. These are electric collars, sonic
collars, and citronella spray collars.
Electric Collars
These collars work by delivering a mild static charge to the dog whenever it
barks, confusing it momentarily and training it not to bark. Some models work by
having the owner activate the collar with a remote control with the press of a
button.
The advantage of this type of training collar is the effectiveness in making the
pet understand his unacceptable behavior. The set up and training procedures are
simple and the collar is user friendly. The disadvantage that is attributed by
some to this collar is the effects of static used on the dog.
Sound Based Collars
Other type of electronic collars use sound instead. This kind of collar
functions by offering a sound that distracts the pet when he gets involved in
unwanted behavior. These collars are usually preferred by those who think that
the ones that deliver static shocks are unethical and cruel.
Citronella Spray Collars
This third type of collars offer a different approach. They are equipped with a
canister which sprays the citronella when it detects the vibrations caused by
barking. This collar is by far the most accepted one by people who think the
other two are somewhat cruel, yet it requires some extra work, such as
constantly refilling the canisters and taking them off at night and at times
when the dog is playing and should be allowed to bark at ease.
