Anti Bark Collars – What Are The Facts?

As with everything, it pays to get a bit of information before buying an anti bark collar for your pet. What types of dog collars are there? How can you choose the right one? Are they necessary for all barking dogs?

    Types of anti bark collars

Anti barking collars come in three types: spray collars, sonic or ultrasonic collars, and electric collars. All of these are safe for the dog and can help the dog learn to not bark as much.

A spray collar works by spraying the muzzle of the dog when it starts to bark, creating an annoying sensation. Because dogs hate the smell of citrus, they want to stop being sprayed with the citrus smell. These collars will hiss before releasing the spray, so that dogs learn to stop the barking in order to save themselves from the unpleasant odor.

Sonic or ultrasonic collars use sound. The principle of these collars is that they emit a sound that is not detectable by the human ear, but it is detected by dogs. Over time, the dog is annoyed or distracted by the high pitched tone to stop barking.

anti bark dog collars that are electrical give out a mild shock or sting sensation when the dog barks. To get an idea of how strong this shock is, compare it to the one you get after walking across a furry carpet. It isn't painful at all, but it is suprising and it really calls your attention.

    What Else to Consider?

There are even some collars that use more than one of the mentioned anti barking methods. For example, it may use both the ultrasonic sound with the citrus smell.

Some anti bark dog collars have an escalation device. For example, you can adjust how loud the sound is or the intensity of the shock. You can increase them if lower levels aren't good enough to stop the barking. This will allow you to get to a level that will call the attention of your dog without stressing it. The dog can stop barking before very much happens to it.

It pays to do a little research on your options on anti bark collars for dogs. Collars can work by using citronella spray, sonic or ultrasonic sounds, or electronic shocking. Regardless of their method, anti bark collars are harmless and effective.

It's always a good idea to learn more about anti bark collars before getting one. In addition, you'll feel more comfortable when you make your dog wear one. Just ask your local pet store for more info on anti bark dog collars.
